SAMSoc Saturday Showing

To round off 2nd Semester with style, we have 2 fantastic movies: Redline and Tokyo Godfathers in the maths building. A classic anime film and one so over-the-top it would make Gurren Lagann do a double take.

This will unfortunately be the final showing before we return in full force for next semester, look forward to it !

Hope to see you there!

We will meet in 54 / 4011 (L/T 4A) on 20/06/2015 at noon.

Awful Anime Day

Apologies for the short notice!

As a post/during exams treat, we will be giving ourselves a reality check by remembering that not all anime is as excellent as the shows that we watch on Wednesdays. Therefore, there will be five hours of punishment, where we shall watch some of the most hideous anime known to man.

(N.B: while the material has been vetted, this will be incredibly trashy and/or offensive. Discretion is advised.)

Anime will be followed by a trip to the Hobbit, so that we might assuage our grief.

We will meet on Sunday 31/05/2015 at 12:00 in B46 LT/C.

Madoka Movie Marathon!

Apologies for the late notice, with any luck you’ll all remember the announcement of this weekend’s Saturday Showing! We will be watching the three Madoka films in Lecture Theatre A of our usual building, in a 7 hour epic.

P.S. There will be a trip to the Hobbit during the following week, planned for Thursday at the moment. Please respond to the poll if any days are a problem for you.

SAMSoc Christmas Quiz and Film Showing!!!

To round off our first Semester, we are going to be celebrating with our Christmas Quiz! There will be a selection of prizes for the top five, so be sure to get involved!

Oh yeah and we’ll also be watching some anime, including the Steins;Gate film.

We will start at noon on Saturday (06/12) in Building 54 (that’s the big ugly Maths tower) room 4011 (L/T 4A) and it will last around 5 hours.

Hope to see you all there tomorrow!

Halloween Saturday Showing!

Sorry for the short notice, but we’ve got a treat for you this week! (No tricks, we promise.)

We’ll be watching a selection of horror-themed anime in the room above our usual surroundings:

Soul Eater
Mirai Nikki
Shinsekai Yori
Hellsing Ultimate

However, we will have plenty of time for an extra fright or two…

Hope to see you there!

Welcome Freshers!

EDIT: It was really fantastic to see so many people interested in our society at the bunfight! We have several events lined up over the coming weeks, starting with our first Showing this Saturday. We are still meeting at 1PM in the Physics Building, Lecture Theatre A, where we will be watching:

· Death Note
· Shinryaku! Ika Musume (Squid Girl)
· Toradora
· Mawaru Penguindrum
· Princess Mononoke

If anyone can’t be there tomorrow, but still wants to join us for our weekly meetings, we are in the same building, Lecture Theatre C, at 6:30PM every Wednesday of term. Please come next week as we will be deciding what to watch for the semester.

Hope to see you all there!

So, you got your A-Level results, and you’ve been accepted at Southampton. Congratulations! Chances are that if you’re reading this, you’re already a fan of anime and/or manga. Then Southampton Anime and Manga Society is just the place for you! We meet once a week on Wednesday evenings to watch a selection of the best that Japanese animation has to offer, and we hold events all through the year ranging from pub crawls to trips to conventions. It’s a great way to make friends, and everyone has fun. Best of all, membership is completely free! If you’re interested in joining, you can come find us at the Bunfight, Southampton’s societies fayre held during Freshers Week.

On Saturday 27th, our taster showing will take place from 13:00 to 18:00 in building 46 L/T A, where we will show a few notable anime, the first episode of each, and a movie.
Our regular showings start on the 1st, the Wednesday after that. We are going to meet weekly, as always, in building 46 L/T C at 18:30.
Full details on our first events will be sent to you via email after the Bunfight.

The best way to keep up to date is to subscribe to updates from this website via the form in the sidebar. You can also join our Facebook group.

Payment for Clothing

Hey everyone,
If you’ve ordered clothing this Wednesday (13th) will be your last chance to pay for it. Remember it’s £10 for a t-shirt and £20 for a hoodie. You’ll receive your item of clothing the first showing back from Easter.
Cheers my dears,
Ben (social sec)

MCM Expo – This Weekend!

London MCM Expo is being held this weekend at the ExCeL in east London, and as mentioned in our weekly showings some members of SAMS will be going to the event. I believe a few members are going on the Saturday, but most will be making their way up to London on Sunday morning (myself included). It’s not too late to buy tickets – they will be available on the day for £10. Train travel is approximately £35 return, less with a Railcard, but is even less if bought in groups of three or four (e.g. four people would pay £17.10 each). We don’t really have a definitive plan beyond getting the train there and back on the Sunday, though we’ll probably make plans to go for a meal at the end of the day, most likely at Wagamama on the South Bank. If you want to travel with the main group rather than make your own way there you should contact either myself or Helena Glover to get the details. Feel free to contact us with any other questions.
